Life's Been Good: what one wishes?

"Life's Been Good" by Joe Walsh (Duration - 8:56 min.)
Satirical classic rock song with a type of insightfulness; comedically shrewd cultural commentary that shows a value beyond entertainment. It may in fact be a lifestyle anthem that wisely sums up what some righteously do NOT wish for.

A cut from the 1978 album: "But Seriously, Folks..."

Song lyrics for "Life's Been Good:"

I have a mansion, forget the price
Ain't never been there, they tell me it's nice
I live in hotels, tear out the walls
I have accountants pay for it all

They say I'm crazy but I have a good time
I'm just looking for clues at the scene of the crime
Life's been good to me so far

My Maserati does one-eighty-five
I lost my license, now I don't drive
I have a limo, ride in the back
I lock the doors in case I'm attacked

I make hit records, my fans they can't wait
They write me letters, tell me I'm great
So I got me an office, gold records on the wall
Just leave a message, maybe I'll call

Lucky I'm sane after all I've been through...
I can't complain but sometimes I still do
Life's been good to me so far

I go to parties, sometimes until four
It's hard to leave when you can't find the door
It's tough to handle this fortune and fame
Everybody's so different, I haven't changed

They say I'm lazy but it takes all my time...
I keep on going, guess I'll never know why
Life's been good to me so far
Yeah, yeah, yeah

Drones: "Rotors & Radios"

Such a newb... really, an actual newbie -- at this certain age! A lot of headroom for potential personal improvement. Well, maybe not equally in all things...

Rotors and...

Blade Nano QX BNF Quadcopter

Radios.

Spektrum DX6i Transmitter

And maybe a DIY anti-vibration gimbal with HD video camera...

Apparently, radio control pilots can improve their quadcopter skill set while being a "grad student in film and television production at USC's School of Cinematic Arts." Not sure that all R/C pilots need a post-graduate engineering degree -- although that might be helpful too. However, almost certainly not all enthusiasts will pilot their radio-controlled multi-rotor crafts while wearing a summer-y casual outfit to artistically provide continuity, atmosphere, and context for a video clip's storyline. Probably not very many pilots could, that successfully.

Good-sky, mind the rotor wash.

Baseball Rivalry: SF Giants vs. LA Dodgers

Giants' Orange Crushes Within One Game of Dodgers' Blue in NL West

(Excerpt) "Travis Ishikawa hit a soaring blast that landed in McCovey Cove... Ishikawa’s home run was the Giants’ 67th splash hit, and Ishikawa’s first. 'It took me eight years to finally do it,' he said."

Impressively, the baseball's high-arching trajectory off the bat had it going higher than the foul pole -- judged to be fair by the long calculating stare of an umpire -- before splashing into cold saltwater beyond the stadium's cheapest standing-room-only viewing area, for the 67th time by a SF Giants' hitter.

This Bum is a Record-Holding Left-Handed Person

(Excerpt) “It’s probably as close as you can get to a playoff atmosphere without actually being in the playoffs,' said Madison Bumgarner, who pitched seven strong innings and picked up a milestone along the way.
... 'We’ve turned it on at the right time and things are starting to go our way. We’ve got a lot of guys that have been here and done this before. They know what to expect, they know what it’s like coming up to finish off September and hopefully in the postseason... [Bumgarner reflected.]"

SF Giants Record for a Left-Handed Pitcher

"Bumgarner struck out his 200th batter of the year in the second inning, becoming the fifth left-handed pitcher in Giants history to reach that mark. Then he went ahead and struck out eight more to beat Ray Sadecki’s San Francisco Giants record (207) for a lefty."

..

Consider: At the end of the day...
SF Giants def. LA Dodgers, 9 - 0.
Ding, ding, ding, ding, went the cable car.
One of these two teams could be --
for the third time in the last five baseball seasons (3 out of 5) --
World Series Champions

LIFT (Link I Found Today)

"It hasn’t been a real big day
But I don’t have a thing to prove
I’ve still got the old nose rider...

Sun setting on the sea
Riding in on her glassy shoulder
The water going grey like me...

Only time is now more precious to
The oldest surfer on the beach..."

Earthquake on Central Coast of California

3.2 Magnitude at 5:28AM PST
Epicenter: 6 miles inland of San Simeon, California
Source: USGS -- Earthquake Hazards Program

In the dark at about 5:15AM PST, I knocked over and shattered a heavy water glass on the tile floor in our bathroom while too quickly reaching for a hand towel. Already too much information?

Jokingly, my wife and I fancied the 5:28AM PST earthquake to be just a slightly delayed reaction on the coastal edge of our tectonic plate in California. There were no injuries or earthquake damages reported from our home. However, there was much early dawn activity ... and about 45 minutes to an hour later I had COMPLETELY cleaned ALL broken glass from the floors in three adjacent areas.

All this is just more of what the internet does best: ... endless noise from pseudo-intellectuals ... [Maybe.]" -- peregrine, commenter at Salon.com

Flooding the Basement

What is the proper name (NOT: ' Trickle-down economics ') for the economic theory that seems to ignore contract laws and uses bailout bucks to make some 'underwater' homes with 'upside down' mortgages (read: serial failures) appear feasible? Perhaps new meaning to Flooding the Basement

Social Networking Websites

Once, there was a concern for the continuation of the human species -- the connection that young male humans have with video games. Junior high, high school, college; video games. When male gamers do make it through school, and are fortunate enough to somehow attract the steady company of a nice normal female, what is to become of their relationship? Engaged; video games? Married; the young males continue to play video games?!

Now, the new synergistically compatible activity has been revealed. Relationships will succeed. The species will continue. The young female humans have social networking websites

Incandescent Collectables

I don’t want to miss it … again. You know, like when the U.S. Mint started making all those newly designed, state theme quarters ($0.25 coins). Which one is the most “collectable” -- one of the attractive new state coins or maybe an old eagle-back?

There’s a lot of buzz and commerce around the new compact fluorescent (CF) and light-emitting diode (LED) light bulbs. Energy Trek and other like-minded are trying to encourage the replacement of one BILLION incandescent bulbs with CF or LED light bulbs.

I don’t want to miss it … what should I do with all the perfectly good incandescent light bulbs that I remove? Are they soon to be rare? Or, are the first few generations of CF and LED light bulbs destined to be more valuable in the future? Perhaps there are more serious questions here that I should consider. Still …

One option is to individually wrap all the old incandescent bulbs in used Christmas paper and carefully pack them for storage in some of those old styrofoam cooler boxes that fly out of the back of pickup trucks. That would be green.

Standard Time wins poll*

Daylight Saving Time was last shown to be this unpopular in 1919!

America first endured this fuel-saving manipulation of the nation's clocks during WWI. Quickly after the war ended, this morning dawn delying law was repealed in 1919. The salt of the earth population then mostly lived on ranches and farms where the workdays began early.

This surely explains the poll results. Some of our outdoor pets probably voted several times, hoping to be fed sooner
!!
* Sampled population way too small for anything close to scientific polling results.

Monkey on the Lam

Steven Colbert has used this title for a comedy segment in his show, "The Colbert Report" (pronounced: The Coal-bear Re-pour) on Comedy Central cable network. Currently this season, a writer's strike has chased his show (and others) into early re-runs.

I think Colbert’s use of an on-stage character for himself actually helps makes his show funnier than the “Daily Show” that runs just before his in the programming. Use a television machine or an internet-connected computer to see “The Colbert Report”. Someone said his act is similar to Archie Bunker. Maybe.

Care to discuss
