Bishop Curry's Sermon at St. George's Chapel

Royal Wedding Sermon Delivered
...for Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, their assembled guests, and all others that will reflect globally and be inspired spiritually by this message at the Windsor Castle royal wedding venue.

UPDATE: complete video added (Duration: 13:39)

MEDIA CREDIT: youtube.com

Personally, one impressive analogy that was presented is about humanity discovering fire -- for the second time. The American Episcopal Bishop begins the analogy between love and fire at approximately 10:30 on the above video. It may be valuable enough to watch the video from the beginning to appreciate the excellent and situationally unique sermon. The analogy comes near the end. It can be appreciated on its own in text below.

Love and Fire Analogy
(Excerpt) "French Jesuit Pierre Teilhard de Chardin was arguably one of the great minds, one of the great spirits of the 20th century. A Jesuit, Roman Catholic priest, scientist, a scholar, a mystic. In some of his writings, he said from his scientific background as well as his theological one. In some of his writings, he said as others have, that the discovery or invention or harnessing of fire was one of the great scientific and technological discoveries in all of human history...

...And he then went on to say that if humanity ever harnesses the energy of fire again -- if humanity ever captures the energy of love -- it will be the second time in history that we have discovered fire."

Source: Ponder Anew, 5.19.2018

Can you not imagine a better assembled group to hear, in person, the hand-picked preacher's stunning royal wedding message? As one commenter on a linked-to website said, "He [The Right Rev. Bishop Michael Bruce Curry] took people to church today, Happy Sabbath." Masterfully done, Harry and Meghan.

ON TOPIC:
Markle Sparkle: "The New Royal Strain." Seriously, of cultivated cannabis. As in, "Your Royal Highness?" Culture-neutral plaudits to America's newly-minted royal nephew [Tyler Dooley from Oregon] for what some might consider cheeky branding at the expense of British royal stuffiness.

Thankful for this Hotel

Tomorrow, this will be posted on a wire mesh "tree" in the lobby. It will be with many crowded together notes on paper. Not many will see it, less will actually read it, and maybe a few will think they might see some meaning from their own perspective -- it's about joy!

Thankful for:
The good health
time and type of wealth, to...

Enable
this visit to
this place to
this time to...

Share Christmastime
with pleasant doormen
circling pigeons
The City
you...

And most our family,
if for a moment
a short conversation
heartfelt in busy lives...

Being here
at Christmastime.

Five Kernels of Corn: "Lest we forget."

First Thanksgiving Feast

The American public education system, as best it can, now teaches that migrant European Pilgrims invaded the east coast of a new land to brutally expand their cultural sphere of influence into an undeveloped fertile region. In so doing, the invaders wrecked the eco-system and existence of indigenous peoples.

Okay, some educators may find criticisms of the above description so I'll immediately admit that it's a bias generalization.

It could be noted that these self-assured autocratic Pilgrims also seemed to be extremely unprepared for such an invasion. Shortly after they first arrived, they were debilitated by the region's winter weather in 1620. Over half of the men, women, and children died because of the lack of food. The severe hardships endured that winter were so bad that at one point the daily food ration was five kernels of corn per Pilgrim.

The next spring, the surviving Pilgrims worked with some indigenous people learning how to grow corn. The fall harvests, at some point, inspired a ceremonial communal feast. During the first thanksgiving feast, Gov. William Bradford purposely gave everyone five kernels of corn and said to each one, "Lest we forget."

Church Children's Message

The 'five kernels of corn' remind us:
Kernel 1
GOD loves us
Kernel 2
GOD provides for us
Kernel 3
the friends GOD gives us
Kernel 4
the people GOD has given us who love us
Kernel 5
GOD hears our prayers and answers us

"Salt is good..."

Causing to Stumble
(Excerpt) "Be salty. 'Salt is good...' I think salt is one of those biblical images that has so many meanings. Salt is a preservative; it maintains life. Salt is the way in which we live our lives with favor and zest. 'Salt is good... .'

So, Jesus... [might say,] be salty... be filled with life, with zest -- preserving life."
Complete audio of this sermon: "Whose Responsibility?" Rev. Rolfe Granath, 9.27.15

Scriptural basis - Mark 9: 38-50
(Excerpt) 50 “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? Have salt among yourselves, and be at peace with each other.”
Complete text that contains this passage: Mark 9: 38-50

A Humble Spirit

Disincentivize Easy Divorce

Choose to repair the current marriage
In some cases, it may be too easy to just call it a day and bail out — perhaps to a waiting co-adulterer. In settling the divorce proceedings in this type of case, the courts might consider removing some advantages of a divorce, so that people in that situation may no longer want to choose an easy divorce over kicking the extra-marital affair(s) to the curb.

In addition to other thoughts, the courts might consider rulings that require a newly divorced couple to continue living together in the same premises as before the divorce (excluding cases with abuse, of course) and require the same ownership of real properties, businesses, and other financial instruments to continue as before the divorce.

Removing some morally vacant and quick freedoms from a divorce may or may not also incentivize the emotionally hard work to repair a current relationship. But at least with these considerations there exists day-to-day opportunity in familiar surroundings.

Going feral

“GOING FERAL”
Proceed to survive instinctually; independently. To untether and necessarily move away from reliance on a freedom stifling and parasitic paradigm. Example: Legacy voters are ‘going feral.'

Currently, the phrase GOING FERAL isn't defined in the UrbanDictionary.com -- until it is.

Truth Quotient

Truth Quotient
If "truth" can be mathematically quantified into a percentage, this might be called the truth quotient. The higher a percentage, presumably the greater likelihood of a pure truth being present. Thereby, is it reasonably logical that something may be expressed in a 100% pure truth form, or alternatively, in varying percentages of lesser truth -- partial truth -- or even just... "truthiness?"

It is said that most successful comedy contains at least some (unspecified) amount of truth -- and great delivery timing. Humor attempted with an inappropriate truth quotient may yield a clearly non-humorous moment, or worse.

"Partial Truth"
(Excerpt) "...this whole area of partial truth is a plague upon us these days." In this sermon titled: "Partial Truth," Rev. Rolfe Granath mentions examples and explains the origin of his sermon title at approximately the 8:00 minute mark on the audio clip below. You can listen to the entire sermon from the beginning for other inspiring spiritual teachings by the Christian Pastor.

LIFT (Link I Found Today)
Fan Site for the Divergent Series: The Divergent Life
There are five named factions within this series' dystopian but perhaps familiarly imperfect society. "Each [faction] is dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue." They are called:

"Abnegation" -- the selfless
"Dauntless" -- the brave
"Candor" -- the honest
"Erudite" -- the intelligent

The people in this society also include the "Factionless" and the namesake... "Divergent"-- a rare individual possessing personality characteristics and aptitudes of more than one faction.

(Excerpt) "Being Divergent is considered dangerous. Since a Divergent's mind cannot be controlled or made to adapt to one certain way of thinking (at least not for long), faction leaders are terrified as to what Divergent people are capable of."

The Books: Divergent, Insurgent, Allegiant, Four
Veronica Roth, author: Divergent Series Ultimate Four-Book Box Set

The Movie: Divergent

Government politicians, in this obviously fictional society, are made up of 50 council members from... Abnegation (the selfless) faction

The 40th Wedding Anniversary

Source: link

Marking a milepost in a marriage.
This fortieth anniversary is one of the many lesser or greater mileposts that will mark the beach pathway that these divinely-coupled people are walking along in their marriage. Long comfortable together, husband and wife will celebrate simply and respectfully acknowledge their continuing life together enabled by God’s blessings.

Traditional Gemstone
Ruby. A red ruby — with an inner fire of passion in the heart and mind that flames and glows alive.

A barber chair question:
The familiar haircutter inhaled abruptly,”Forty years? What’s your secret?!”
A reflective air came into the banter. The true answer at that first asked opportunity was appropriately voiced with enthusiastic confidence, “I married well.”

The event. An international beach city. A very exclusive guest list.

Just the couple; together on Oahu. At the north shore and in Honolulu, Hawaii. More than one specific day, this event is bigger than one blog post…

Epiphany 2014

Three Kings Day
Epiphany, January 6, is a Christian holiday that falls on the twelfth day after Christmas -- the conclusion of the twelve days of Christmas. "On the twelfth day of Christmas my true love gave to me..."

This holiday may include a feast!

(Excerpt) "Though many different cultural and denominational customs are practiced, in general, the [Epiphany] feast celebrates the manifestation of God in the form of human flesh through Jesus Christ, his Son.

The word epiphany means 'manifestation' or 'revelation' and is commonly linked in Western Christianity with the visit of the wise men (Magi) to the Christ child. Through the Magi, Christ revealed himself to the gentiles... ."
Source: About.com Christianity

Definition: An epiphany
(Excerpt) "... a moment in which you suddenly see or understand something in a new or very clear way."

"ADRIFT"
A FILM FROM SIMON CHRISTEN / www.simonchristen.com
Source: Vimeo

This artist used two years to capture and create a technological tour de force, photographic masterpiece, and emotion-provoking film -- in my humble opinion.
Excerpt: "The weather conditions have to be just right for the fog to glide over the hills and under the bridge. I developed a system for trying to guess when to make the drive out to shoot, which involved checking the weather forecast, satellite images and webcams multiple times a day. For about 2 years, if the weather looked promising, I would set my alarm to 5am, recheck the webcams, and then set off on the 45-minute drive to the Marin Headlands."

Embracing 'The Struggle'

"You must develop a love for the struggle."

Above quote is from Morgan Freeman (April 2013 interview). He was speaking generally (perhaps non-related) of one way to live successfully during our time in this world that is often overfilled with opportunity, information, responsibility, and sometimes exhaustion.

LORD, give me a type of strength that allows finding Your gift in each day, humility, and confidence

Lent 2013: Ash Wednesday

Dates of Lent in 2013:
(Wednesday) February 13 through (Saturday) March 30

First Day of Lent:
Ash Wednesday, February 13, 2013

Many Christian Americans and others worldwide know lent as a time of personal spiritual preparation during the "40-day season" preceding Easter. (There are historical reasons, beyond explanation here, for why Ash Wednesday is actually 46 days before Easter.) The "40-day" season of lent is for fasting and prayer, repentance, moderation and abstinence; to reflect on the sufferings, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Easter Sunday 2013:
(Sunday) March 31, 2013

Some related content ...

Faith
(Excerpt) “...Paul defines faith as ‘the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.’ Hebrews 11:1…”
Source: Doctrinal Treatise, Old German Baptist Brethren

To perhaps better understand the obvious immensity of this single verse, I took an opportunity at church Sunday to look it up in a Bible provided on the back of the pew in front of us -- a pew Bible. The following is how Hebrews 11:1 read from there:

By Faith
(Excerpt) “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1
Source: Holy Bible, New International Version

Pastor’s sermon this week did not have the main title published in the bulletin as “Faith Alone”, but the sermon did have much related content.

And I later found this highlighted verse in someone else's childhood Bible ...

(Excerpt) “So Christ was offered as a sacrifice one time to take away the sins of many people. And he will come a second time, but not to offer himself for sin. He will come again to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.” Hebrews 9:28

Each Day is a Gift

Alpha Omega

Each day is a gift, in my opinion, from GOD ...

Update (3.24.2012):
Your will. Your time, LORD.
(Excerpt) "... each day is a gift. A new 'present' to unwrap and treasure. It's so easy to take them for granted, it's great to have a good reminder like this!"
