Word of the Year

The American Dialect Society (ADS) on January 9, 2009 will determine it's annual word-of-the-year (WOTY) for 2008. Their 2007 winner was " subprime ". Earlier this year, " bailout " was chosen by publisher Merriam-Webster as it's word of the year for 2008. " Bailout " is also high on the ADS 2008 list of nominations from the public.
