Lent 2013: Ash Wednesday

Dates of Lent in 2013:
(Wednesday) February 13 through (Saturday) March 30

First Day of Lent:
Ash Wednesday, February 13, 2013

Many Christian Americans and others worldwide know lent as a time of personal spiritual preparation during the "40-day season" preceding Easter. (There are historical reasons, beyond explanation here, for why Ash Wednesday is actually 46 days before Easter.) The "40-day" season of lent is for fasting and prayer, repentance, moderation and abstinence; to reflect on the sufferings, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Easter Sunday 2013:
(Sunday) March 31, 2013

Some related content ...

Faith
(Excerpt) “...Paul defines faith as ‘the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.’ Hebrews 11:1…”

To perhaps better understand the obvious immensity of this single verse, I took an opportunity at church Sunday to look it up in a Bible provided on the back of the pew in front of us -- a pew Bible. The following is how Hebrews 11:1 read from there:

By Faith
(Excerpt) “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1

Pastor’s sermon this week did not have the main title published in the bulletin as “Faith Alone”, but the sermon did have much related content.

And I later found this highlighted verse in someone else's childhood Bible ...

(Excerpt) “So Christ was offered as a sacrifice one time to take away the sins of many people. And he will come a second time, but not to offer himself for sin. He will come again to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.” Hebrews 9:28
